Plot

The Netflix series The Crown tells the story of the British royal family and, in particular, of Queen Elizabeth II beginning in 1947. It is conceived and divided into six seasons. A fifth season is going to be delivered soon.

The first season (years 1947-1956) recounts events from the marriage of Elizabeth and Philip of Edinburgh to the outbreak of the Suez Crisis in 1956, including the coronation of the Queen (1953) and Winston Churchill in his second term as prime minister.

The second season (years 1956-1964) includes the events when Anthony Eden and Harold Macmillan were prime ministers and the Profumo scandal, until March 1964, the year of the birth of Prince Edward, the queen's last son.

The third season (years 1964-1977) spans from Harold Wilson's election to the office of prime minister to Elizabeth II's Silver Jubilee in 1977. TheHere are narrated the ongoing crisis marriage between Princess Margaret and Antony Armstrong-Jones and the early love affairs of Prince Charles.

 

The fourth season (years 1977-1990) narrates the events from the first meeting between Charles and Lady Diana Spencer in 1977 until 1990, the year of the resignation of Margaret Thatcher, the first woman to hold the office of prime minister in the history of the United Kingdom. This period saw the marriage of Charles and Diana (1981) and the birth of their sons William (1982) and Harry (1984).
